Music to Freak Out Stoners Revisited: New Podcast Episode (YAY!)

In this episode I share my last sorta finished bit of music.. that I’ve been meaning to post forever.. I’m not sure what I think of it.. maybe you can leave your comments to help me think this through.. At the moment I’m thinking the mix could be fixed up a bit.. with respect to the base end.. That’s my chief issue.

I wrote a lot about this little project.. and so.. well, I should leave some links to said posts.

After this, we get a few posts that.. Kinda go into the depths.. and these are sorta subtextual, at least, stuff on this production.

So I guess that’s it.. after that the blog kinda goes off into sound synthesis… which may sorta form the basis of what I show in the next podcast episode.. so till then hope you dig it.

I should add that should you want to subscribe to this via iTunes, this be the link

It’s nice to have a new podcast from you and to hear there should be more to follow soon. I am also curious/excited to hear your going to be putting out a new Album as well. That is super awesome!
I loved the music, so unique and all the different layers of sound were amazing. Like candy for my ear’s, I’ve listen to this piece several times and I swear I hear something new each time I do. Def like that your adding voice. Keep up the good work my friend!

I agree with our friend pcornqueen here, totally!! Dude, this is sounding uber-awesome. I also hear new things each time I hear this….the addition of the lyrics underneath is so subtle yet really spooky….so cool. Very freaking the stoners, no doubt!

I gotta tell ya….I loved the intro….I was laughing so hard, ’cause with that kinda spooky intro music and the reverbed voice….and you speaking in this sorta low key way…it reminded me of one of those old horror shows on TV with Vincent Price or something!! LOL! Awesome….can’t wait to hear more podcasts and definitely can’t wait for the new album!!!

How I stumbled across this unfortunate website I don’t know. Luckily I was already stoned and have to say that I have to take the opposing argument to your two “friends” here. Of course these people know you so they love it regardless. The honest truth is this sucks rather largely. Interesting, maybe for a bit but it is not memorable has zero re playability and quite honestly the art seems to be wrapped in this delusion of grandeur making it sound pretentious and rather aloof. I find it to be boring and uninspiring. I think you are in need of a straight jacket more than anything. Keep believing you are whatever it is you say you are and go to your grave thinking someday, one day people will like this shit. God help us all if the World ever gets to that point. The only place I could see this being used is in some kind of torture environment. Yes torture this is. What is this World coming too :-(

    John,

Wow, strong reaction… I’m not sure I totally understand where you’re coming from or why, but I do want to thank you for your comment anyway.

You know I’m not real sure what I think of this track myself.. I hear big problems with it.. but friend get all excited about it.. and I don’t if it’s just friends being friends, or what.. and it can be really hard to objective about something like that.. after you put in all that work.. usually I find I have to kind of sit with it for a while.

I can tell you I don’t mean to be pretentious or aloof.. I don’t think I am pretentious or aloof.. but I can see how maybe I could come off that way?

That said.. there is a good deal of work I’ve done that I’m very proud of and that I do think stands up very well.

[…] I got this kind of crazy comment on a post..  from John…  which I think I could safely characterize as “insensitive” in […]

Well, it would appear to me at least, that John’s comment is coming from a land called “Douchebagville”. He probably is a failed artist or musician himself who has nothing better to do than troll real artist/musician blogs and disparage them. It’s sad, really. However, I would take pride in the fact that despite his shitty and cynical outlook on your music, you have acheived the ultimate - you actually FREAKED OUT a stoner with it - as John clearly states he himself is stoned. So…mission accomplished! lol

  7. Matt Says:

lol, like Dave listening to Zappa back in the day

I know it’s like a month late, but I had the same Vincent Price thought before I even read the comments.
